will create 14,000 Jobs

Ontario Ministry of Transportation today said that it is appointing a task force that will help expand and build transit in Scarborough to create jobs and economic opportunities for the community.
Co-chaired by Scarborough Centre MPP Brad Duguid and Toronto City Councillor Michael Thompson, the task force will build transit that will create jobs through an urban renewal strategy for Scarborough. It will also strengthen the regional economy by reducing gridlock so that families can get to and from work easily and businesses can get their products moving more quickly and spend less time sitting in traffic.
"Our government is moving forward to establish a joint Ontario-Toronto-private sector task force that will look at opportunities to maximize economic development and job opportunities as we continue to build the Big Move projects in Scarborough,” said Glen R Murray, Minister of Transportation and Minister of Infrastructure.
The strategy will also encourage smart urban development to help leverage private investment, establish new transit corridors, improve access to public services, maximize ridership, develop industrial clusters and create greater connectivity to the region.
"I am pleased to be involved with the province’s plans to establish a new task force that will look at ways to improve and maximize benefits that come with building transit, such as employment and investments that spur economic development,” said Michael Thompson, Toronto City Councillor, Ward 37.
The Province continues to urge the Federal government to develop a national infrastructure strategy and to invest in transit in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Investing in public transit infrastructure is part of the new Ontario government's plan to help reduce gridlock, strengthen communities, create jobs and help people in their everyday lives.
"Transit improvements for Scarborough will help make it easier residents and will encourage much needed business development and job opportunities that help create a more liveable and stronger community,” commented Brad Duguid, MPP, Scarborough Centre.
